Epistemic agency for costructuring expansive knowledge?building practices

As a hallmark of authentic science practices, students need to enact epistemic agency shape/reshape the key aspects their inquiry work as collaborative community. This study elaborates an emergent temporal mechanism for engaging students' agency: “reflective structuration” by which members classroom community coconstruct ever-evolving directions and group structures collective proceeds. Using interactional ethnography method, we examined how (n = 22) in Grade 5 coconstructed shared flexible guide sustained about human body systems over 7 months supported online environment. Rich data were collected trace eye telling case. With teacher's support, took agentic moves construct evolving set wondering areas way frame what whole class needed investigate. Flexible groups, such group, emerged evolved various areas, leading progressively deepening extensive idea exchanges among students. Implications research practice are discussed.
